Veterans come 1st on 3 Peaks
The Hereford and Powys Veterans 3 Peak challenge running team has come first overall in the A event 24 hour 3 peak challenge. Frame Wise is a proud sponsor of the team that includes our very own Production Manager Dave Lloyd.

Their aim was to take on the 24 hour 3 peak challenge starting on June the 20th. This challenge is to climb the highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland in a 24 hour period and is not for the novice or the faint hearted. On the first day of the challenge they started on Ben Nevis at 6.40pm, they were then driven to Scafell for a 4am start. Then on to Snowdon for an 11am start and finally finishing at the summit. The Team clocked 16 hours 42 minutes total, this included 11 hours travel time. Their total running for the 3 Peaks was 5 hours 42 minutes - Not Bad!

| With the government drive for all homes reaching Code 6 by 2016, Frame Wise Ltd a timber frame company based in Presteigne, Mid Wales, is pushing the Code for Sustainable Homes, with a twin frame system that can achieve less than 0.1 W/m²k U-value and 1 m³/h/m² air tightness, making it one of the warmest open panel timber frame systems currently available. Frame Wise have stepped up to help the self build and commercial market in their quest to meet the future code for sustainable homes, with today's materials. Frame Wise understand that the credits for the Code for Sustainable homes are somewhat difficult to collate, therefore timber frame can help greatly, being energy efficient, as it reduces the overall consumption of energy but provides a greater environmental rating. |

High performance double-skin panels from timber frame manufacturer, Frame Wise, have been used in the design of a low-energy self-build project in the company’s home town of Presteigne, Powys.
Self-build clients, Richard and Hilary Rimington, employed local architect Don Reed to design a three-bedroom house with industry-beating thermal performance using sustainable materials procured, wherever possible, from local sources.
The house employs Frame Wise’s latest double-panel system for optimum thermal resistance. Launched 18 months ago, this new panel can deliver U-values of less than 0.1W/m²k, making it arguably the warmest open panel timber frame systems currently available.

A fact-finding trip to Germany organised by the UK Timber Frame Association (UKTFA) has helped to identify future options for the timber frame industry, including how Passivhaus design concepts and other benefits of German timber frame construction can be applied to the UK.
The two day study tour at the end of 2008 involved 30 members of the UKTFA. It included factory visits to see Passivhaus schemes and pre-fabricated off-site construction, a presentation on how the very low U-values of the Passivhaus system are achieved and demonstrations of the latest woodworking equipment and automation systems.

Andrew Banks – Testimonial
Having visited Arctic Finland many times in mid winter I have been increasingly impressed by the performance of the timber frame cabins which formed the bedroom accommodation of the hotel in which I stay. Although temperatures frequently fall to -30C and -50C is not unknown the rooms remain consistently comfortable night and day with a minimum of heat input. It is not surprising that when undertaking potentially one of the most demanding commissions of my career that I turned to timber frame as the basis of the design for a new house for my daughter, son in law and two small grandsons.
