| Achieving your Targets |
|
On this page we have tried to show how we build up our insulation products to meet your targets. Try our U-Value calculator on the right to see how different products can affect your U-value and look at the diagrams below to see how they fit into the frame. Please note that our options are not limited to those shown on this page. If you have a particular insulation in mind, please contact us to discuss your requirements. Tips for using the Calculator • This calculator only gives an estimate of the expected value through the walls of your build. Lofts and roofs will use a different build up of insulating materials. • Generally synthetic materials are more thermally efficient than their natural counterparts. If you intend to use one of the natural materials you may have to use a greater thickness to achieve the same U-value. • The numbers 043, 040, 035 and 032 represent the λ-value (or k-value) of the insulation. The lower the number, the more efficient the insulation. • If you want insulation as part of your Timber Frame package, reflective breather paper is the easiest and often cheapest way to substantially reduce your U-Value. Even if you are not going to have your insulation from us it could be an excellent addition to your frame. • It is important to confirm your cladding when you request an insulation quote. As you can see from the calculator, your cladding choice can make a difference to your U-Value
140mm Open Panel The vapour control layer can either be a standard vapour barrier or an intelligent membrane to improve your air-tightness. This does not directly improve your U-Value but improving air-tightness can be a much easier way to improve the thermal efficiency of your build.
