Green Policy a Trail Blazer

A family business supplying quality bespoke timber frames for private and commercial building construction is the recipient of the latest Hereford Times/Baker Tilly Trailblazer Award for environmental awareness.

Frame Wise Ltd, set up in the early 1990s and based in Powys, has customers across Herefordshire as well as throughout the UK and internationally. Manufacturing, with a strong focus on quality and environmental leadership, takes place at its 18,000 sq ft hi-tech factory in Presteigne and Frame Wise has succeeded in creating a successful market for all its products within the highly competitive construction sector.

Managing director Simon Orrells, who runs the business with his wife Jennifer, said: "We are absolutely committed to reducing the carbon footprint of the construction industry. "By offering a sustainable building solution and utilising manufacturing processes which minimise environmental mpact, our timber frames offer one of the most sustainable modem methods of construction used today."

In recent years the company has expanded to complement its manufacturing capability with a distributorship of engineered wood products. Joists and floor decks can now be supplied to traditional builders, alongside Frame Wise's expanding range of timber frames.

The company has also been awarded the UKTFA Q Mark Plus award, which is the gold standard for quality in the industry. The business also has full FSC and PEFC certifications, demonstrating the traceability and sustainability of its timber, quality mark ISO 9001 and is shortly to gain ISO 14001, highlighting environmental commitment.

We are continuing to expand, successfully entering the market for the construction of new schools as well as affordable social housing," said Mr Orrells.

Allan Davies, senior partner at the Hereford office of national business advisory and accountancy firm Baker Tilly said: "Frame Wise is an excellent example of a company which understands the needs of its developing marketplace and has the ability as well as the foresight to produce top quality products with outstanding environmental awareness," he said. The Hereford Times/Baker Tilly Trailblazer Award is presented quarterly and recognises local business innovation and good practice.

Open Panel Timber Frame Passes Code 5
Andrew Banks – Testimonial

Having visited Arctic Finland many times in mid winter I have been increasingly impressed by the performance of the timber frame cabins which formed the bedroom accommodation of the hotel in which I stay. Although temperatures frequently fall to -30C and -50C is not unknown the rooms remain consistently comfortable night and day with a minimum of heat input. It is not surprising that when undertaking potentially one of the most demanding commissions of my career that I turned to timber frame as the basis of the design for a new house for my daughter, son in law and two small grandsons.
